Guided imagery is a form of focused relaxation that helps create harmony between the mind and body. It is a way of meditation by focusing your imagination to create calm, peaceful images in your mind, thereby providing a “mental escape". Research shows that guided imagery may be helpful in managing a variety of health conditions, including anxiety associated with illnesses or medical procedures, insomnia, labor pain, chemotherapy-induced nausea, and temporomandibular joint dysfunction. The goal with guided imagery is to produce the body’s natural relaxation response, characterized by slower breathing, lower blood pressure, and a feeling of increased well-being. We are excited to have Richard Borutta teaching a weekly guided imagery class at Hana Holistic Medical center. Rick has practiced mediation for over 20 years. He studies astrology, energy work, dreams, writing, sacred prayer and is the Public Programs Coordinator for the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco.
